Belagavi: Senior BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy, who had given sleepless nights to many top political leaders including former prime minister Late Indira Gandhi, former Tamil Nadu CM Late Jayalalitha, and the person who presently has kept KPCC president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the target in National Herald case, now fallen behind the Belagavi based Lokamanya Multi-purpose Cooperative Society. Believe or not but it’s true.
Presently, being a Rajya Sabha member, Dr Swamy has written letter to the central Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the money laundering allegations against the Lokamanya Society. He has urged the ED to conduct investigation under Foreign Exchange Management Act-1999 and Prevention of Money Laundering Act-2002, since the allegations are in serious nature.
Demanding the investigation, Belagavi (South) MLA Abhay Patil had submitted a memorandum to Dr Subramanian Swamy, along with the signatures of around 60 Karnataka legislators. After going through the documents provided by Patil, Dr Swamy has written letter to the ED. It is said to be that once Dr Swamy takes any case, he won’t let it till the last.
Following the intervention of Dr Swamy, the investigation has been expedited in the case. MLA Abhay Patil also wrote prime minister Narendra Modi seeking investigation. Patil has alleged the misappropriation of public deposits worth of around Rs 1,000 crores in the Society.
Following the request of Dr Swamy to the Enforcement Directorate, the office of the Directorate of Cooperative Societies, Bengaluru has taken the case for investigation under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act-2002 under Section 108. Since the case has been considered under Section 108 of MSCS Act, the investigation will go in detail. The officers from Bengaluru have begun inspection of the Society documents from Wednesday. According to the sources, all transactions exceeding Rs 5 lakh carried out up to present date from 2012 will be examined.
Speaking to the media persons in Belagavi on Wednesday, an investigation officer said the investigation is being carried in detail including the crores of rupees loans availed from the Society, allegedly without giving proper surety by the founder chairman, his family members and other associates. He said the investigation will be held in the allegations about the concerned persons developing their assets by availing depositors’ money unlawfully and even investing in Benami properties, the officer briefed.
