Belagavi: The Green Saviours team has planted 5,100 trees to develop a mini forest in the premises of Belagavi Airport at today morning, in association with Airport Authority of India (AAI), Rotary Club of Belgaum, Rotary Connects The World, Suryodaya Bank and Dream Fly Aviation and Hospitality Academy, Belagavi.
The team of a total of 800 volunteers completed the task just within two hours and 15 minutes. The plantation began by the auspicious hands of noted environmentalist Shivaji Kaganikar at 7.30 am and finished at 9.45 am. The majority of plants are the local species. The Green Saviours team led by Sameer Malaji will maintain the plants for the next two years.
Speaking to the Today Breakings, airport director Rajesh Kumar Maurya, said plantation was made in between Airport Colony to the front portion of the terminal building. Officer said the plantation area was excavated for 3 feet deep at the earlier. IGP (Northern Range) Raghavendra Suhas and city police commissioner Lokesh Kumar participated in the programme.
The Green Saviours team has planted more than 20,000 trees in Belagavi since 2016. The team of dedicated volunteers conducts plantation drive on every Sunday in an attempt to restore greenery in and around the city of Belagavi.
