Belagavi: The polyester saris weaved in Vadagaon and Khasbag areas of Belagavi city are famous as Shahapur Saris. It’s a noted brand exported to different parts of the country. Now, these saris are in the news for becoming a costume to Bollywood actress Kajol, in her upcoming movie Tanhaji : The Unsung Warrior.
The trailer of Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which launched on November 19, gave us a peek into the story of 17th-century Maratha general Tanhaji Malursare. Packed with theatrical sequences and vivid design, the film features Ajay Devagn, Saif Ali Khan and Kajol in leading roles, and is scheduled to release on January 10, 2020.
Like any other period drama that takes us deep into history, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior also aimed to bring the characters alive through elaborate sets and costumes. Seasoned designer Nachiket Barve, who took up the challenge offered by director Om Raut, was no stranger to the realm of costume design. The contemporary fashion designer has worked on advertisements and two critically-acclaimed Marathi films previously.
In this film, Kajol is playing the leading role of Savitribai Malusare. Costume designer Nachiket Barve wanted simple custom-woven saris which he got from Belagavi.
