Belagavi: Suresh Angadi, minister of state for railways ( MoSR) along with railway officials today inspected the ongoing works being taken up for construction of new station building at Belagavi.
Work of main entry building of Belagavi railway station could not progress during lock down period. Now with relaxation of lockdown, work has started expeditiously by mobilization of manpower and resources.
Suresh Angadi expressed satisfaction on the resumption of ongoing work, concrete work of ground level plinth slab for Londa end building and recently casted ground floor slab for Miraj end of the station building main entry.The work is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited.
During the inspection, proposed circulating area and parking area were discussed and provision for construction of multi level car parking for about 12 cars in each floor was suggested by the minister. This will optimize space and also facilitate for landscaping the balance area.
Minister Angadi was informed that in front of building towards Miraj end, Multi-level car parking & in front of building towards Londa end, two wheeler parking is planned. The auto parking & paid taxi parking provision is planned in front of central block of the building which is in between entry & exit gate .
Angadi advised to plan for two bus bays on Cantonment Road, exactly outside of the railway compound for facilitating passengers and also advised to interact with smart city & Cantonment Board authorities for provision of suitable location.
Minister was appraised about the move of shifting of existing parcel & GRP office into basement floor of existing two wheeler parking structure and the space on the ground level of this structure could be utilized as additional accommodation for commercial facilities.
Angadi was also informed that new foot over bridges are being provided at Miraj end of existing main platform (PF-01) to give access to passengers from proposed second entry building at Miraj end of Yard. He also suggested for providing Travelator for passengers to come across from platform No. 04 to main platform.
To provide smooth entry and exit to the station, Angadi suggested to examine the options of reallocation the sweet shop near the entry gate which was infringing smooth movement of vehicles, as per planned circulating area. It was suggested to shift the same to a suitable location in the food plaza in the main entry of the station building.
He advised that since work was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, now work has to be taken up expeditiously and completed within the time frame., i.e. by this year end.
