Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel to Feature Advanced Crowd System
CD Projekt Red seeks to implement groundbreaking crowd dynamics in Orion.

CD Projekt Red is looking to hire a Lead Encounter Designer for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Orion.
The Polish company has been diligently working on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, which was first announced in 2022. To facilitate the development of this action-RPG, CD Projekt Red established a new studio in Boston, Massachusetts, while continuing operations with its existing Vancouver-based team.
While CDPR revealed The Witcher 4 in December, they have kept details of the Cyberpunk sequel under wraps. However, new insights have emerged concerning one of the anticipated open world features of the game.
As indicated by the role descriptions for an open position at CD Projekt Red's Boston studio, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is set to unveil “the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date”.
The studio aims to hire a Lead Encounter Designer for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Orion. The job description outlines that this role will involve “formulating solutions and creating memorable gameplay encounters that will thrill and excite our players”.
Moreover, this lead designer will collaborate closely with the systems design team aimed at developing the most advanced crowd dynamics in gaming history.
While job listings typically offer an early glimpse of a project's direction, this description hints at CD Projekt Red's ambition to elevate expectations for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.
Project Orion was officially announced in October 2022, accompanied by a statement that promised to “take the Cyberpunk franchise further and harness the potential of this dark future universe”.
The establishment of the Boston studio is part of a broader strategy to bolster the North American division of CD Projekt Red, which is developing Orion alongside the Vancouver studio.
Like The Witcher 4 and other future titles in the Witcher series, Orion is being crafted using Unreal Engine 5. In a 2023 interview, Cyberpunk 2077 director Gabe Amatangelo noted that the transition from the in-house REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 didn’t feel like “starting from scratch”.
While CD Projekt Red has not disclosed further details on the storyline or setting of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, there are no confirmations regarding a release timeline as well. The highly anticipated RPG is likely still years away from launch.
