Six major projects to be pushed under PPP model in Belagavi city including multi-level car parking

Belagavi: The Smart City works are running at the top gear in the city now. In order to push more infrastructure development works, the Belagavi Smart City Limited (BSCL) is going to call an ‘interest of expression’ by the investors shortly for more projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

BSCL has planned to take-up a total of six major projects under PPP, including projects like multi-level car parking, solar project, public bicycle sharing (PBC), etc. The meeting of ‘smart city’ panel held in Bengaluru on Wednesday, to push the projects under PPP.

Currently, the city is facing enormous problems with vehicle parking, especially of four-wheelers. Thus, BSCL is mulling to build two multi-level car parking buildings in the city in the first phase. The problem of vehicle parking is also affecting the business of vendors, especially in major commercial streets of the city.

Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) project- Trin Trin, which has already become successful in Mysuru, has been planned to introduce in Belagavi under PPP model. Under this initiative, an agency will be fixed to provide bicycles to the public through different locations across the city for a nominal fee. This healthy initiative will help to control air pollution in the city and keep people physically fit.

However, the PBS project will be introduced once the road works in the city will be completed. There are plans to create separate cycle tracks along the roadsides. Once the project is introduced, the bicycle users supposed to register themselves with the prescribed centers by paying some refundable deposit amount. A person picks-up a bicycle in one center can deposit it at another.

Installing solar panels on the terraces of most of the buildings of Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) and other government offices is another major project under the pipeline of BSCL to introduce through the PPP model. There is an aim to generate 30MW energy through this project. The survey of rooftops of the government office buildings has already done.

This apart, there will be two large-sized commercial complexes come-up in the city in the coming days. “BSCL is going to search for the investors for all these projects by calling the ‘interest of expression’ shortly,” said BSCL MD Shashidhar Kurer, speaking to the Today Breakings.
