Belagavi: There is a growing voice by the industrial fraternity of Belagavi against the holding of ‘Invest Karnataka 2020’ meet in Hubballi on 14th February, claiming it as a step-motherly attitude towards Belagavi.
An online campaign has been mooted to boycott Hubballi event, and many industry related personalities have come in support of the campaign. Dr Sonali Sarnobat has appealed to Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Belgaum Small Scale Industries Association, Belgaum Foundry Cluster and other industry-related associations to boycott Hubballi event.
According to Dr Sarnobat, despite know as the second capital of the state, Belagavi is lagging behind in industrial growth, compared to Hubballi, and giving focus on developing industries in here is the need of an hour. Organizing such an event again in Hubballi is nothing but showing a step-motherly attitude towards Belagavi. Many people are endorsing the views of Dr Sarnobat.
Speaking to the Today Breakings, some industry-related personalities, who have chosen to remain neutral on taking the stand on the issue, say Invest Karnataka scheduled in Hubballi is a part of Global Investors Meet (GIM) scheduled in the month of November in Bengaluru. Instead of opposing the Hubballi event, Belagavits can put pressure on the government to hold a similar event in Belagavi too, instead of opposing the Hubballi event, which could send a negative message.
In the month of November 2019, major industries minister Jagadish Shettar had held interaction meet with the industrial fraternity of North-Karnataka as well as Maharastra in a private hotel here to attract investment in Belagavi. However, that meet failed to attract any investment. The industrial fraternity of Belagavi wanted a big programme in Belagavi to showcase the available opportunities in the district to invest.
