Belagavi: The Canada based charitable organization-Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) has selected six taluks of Belagavi district this year to distribute bedkits to the financially backward children in the age group of 6 to 12.
Athani, Nippani, Gokak, Ramdurg, Belagavi and Bailhongal taluks have been selected to distribute bedkits. SCAW distributes 800 kits to the selected each taluk place that comprises a total of 23 materials including sweater, dress materials, anti-mosquito net, educational materials, blanket etc. Each bedkit costs Rs 3,000 worth.
The support kit is distributed through the Rotary Club, which identifies the beneficiaries. On Monday, the team of seven SCAW members from Canada visited Athani and distributed bedkits to the children. According to Deepak Patil, assistant district governor of Rotary Club said bedkits were distributed to children on Monday in Athani in presence of many leaders including Gajanan Mangasuli.
Dilip Chitnis noted industrialist and senior office-bearer of Rotary Club, Belagavi said SCAW distribute bedkits to poor children every year to the poor children. Apart from Belagavi, the organization has selected many districts apart from Belagavi, he said.
