Belagavi: A month ago, Belagavi Smart City Limited (BSCL) had officially dropped the plan of renovating historical Belagavi Fort, following the negative response by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to grant the permission.
However, the plan has once again got into the life, thanks to the minister of state for railways Suresh Angadi, who has now taken the responsibility of getting the nod from MoD for the project.
BSCL is once again going to resume correspondence with MoD, besides it will take out a delegation to New Delhi shortly, to meet the officers of MoD, in the leadership of minister Suresh Angadi.
According to sources, of the total fort wall, only 10 to 15 percent comes under MoD. However, that part is the front portion and a crucial one. Already this part is maintained by the state archaeological department. However, the renovation work of the fort can’t be taken without a nod of the MoD.
BSCL had done almost 19 correspondences to get the nod but in vain. BSCL has a bigger plan of developing tourism if MoD gives nod to renovate the fort, that comprises rejuvenating the moat surrounding the fort and making boating facility there. Establishing a museum, laser show and set up other recreational activities are part of the plan.
There is a plan to keep engage tourists at least half of the day at the fort area that includes lake outside the fort, and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Kamal Basadi and Safa Masjid inside the fort.
