AIR radio station still a distance dream to Belagavi

Belagavi: The full-fledged FM radio station is still a distance dream for Belagavits.

Three years ago, during his visit to Belagavi, former union minister of state for information and broadcasting- Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod had announced of establishing full-fledged FM radio station by All India Radio (AIR) for the city.

The minister Rathod had made announcement in June 2017 but nothing has been done so far. “Belagavi is a huge district and city it is one of the beautiful cities of India, which deserved FM radio station” Radhod had stated. He had sanctioned FM radio on the spot, which welcomed largly by the Belagavits.

Three union budgets tabled after the announcement of a radio station in Belagavi but never mentioned about the radio station. No correspondences had been made in this regard in all these years. The sanction of the radio station by the minister has almost forgotten.

Presently, city has a community FM station ‘Venudhwani’ run by KLE Society. Government run AIR has stations at neighbouring cities Dharwad, Kolhapur and at Goa. However, due to non-active frequency, most of the people in city are not availing the benefit of radio.

The radio covers almost 98% geographical area of the country. In past few years, the centre is giving encouragement to the private and community radios.
